I’ve been tagged…

I have been tagged by A. at Adding Baby, and it’s been oh so long since I’ve done a meme. What could be better way to kick off a holiday weekend?

For the Kreativ Blogger award the rules of acceptance are simple: list seven things you love and then pass the award to seven blogs you love.

Things I Love:

  1. Swimming and that wonderful feeling of weightlessness that comes with it
  2. The heirloom tomatoes that are finally showing up at farmer’s market
  3. The way my wife spoils me
  4. The yellow and red gerber daisies sitting in a vase on our table
  5. This little guy who is constantly morphing my belly
  6. My wife
  7. Che.rry Gar.cia Ice Cream Bars

The blogs I love:

See my blogroll to the right. I can’t tag anyone because that would involve choosing just seven blogs, and if you don’t already know this about me, I’m indecisive. So, if you haven’t gotten to do this meme yet, and you are really loving seven things, consider yourself tagged!

paying it forward

(Hmm…no takers at all. Weird. Maybe I’ll try again another week.)

Because I was a big winner over at Babypants, I get to pass this really lovely activity on to my readers. This is one of my favorite memes/chain letters that has ever gone around because it means I get to make and send my readers presents, and, really, who doesn’t like presents, especially of the handmade variety? This is great for someone like me because I’m always looking for new people for whom I can make things. Any excuse to create is a good one!

I have many ideas for gifts, both for those who want baby-related items and those who want items tailored more for grownups, the whole family, etc.. Just let me know your preference; I promise it will be good either way!

Here are the rules:

  1. Be one of the first three people to leave a comment on this post, which entitles you to something handmade by me (something crafty or yummy).
  2. Winners must post this challenge on their own blog, meaning that you will Pay It Forward, and send handmade goodies to three more folks, the first three who leave a comment on your blog.
  3. The gift that you send your first three commenters can be from any price range, and you have 365 days to make & ship your item. (This means that you should be planning to keep your blog at least until you’ve received your gift and sent your gifts.) And remember, it’s the spirit and the thought that count!
  4. When you receive your gift, feel free to blog about it, and share the Linky Love. If you’re not one of the first three commenters on this post, you can still play. Just create a Pay It Forward post on your own blog, and start your own chain. And encourage your blogging friends to play along.
Now, don’t be shy! Leave a comment, and be one of the first three!

My Nightstand

I’ve been tagged by Clark over at PBX Makes Four to participate in this meme, and heaven knows I love a meme–especially during these desperate times with so little to write about! Without further ado…

What’s On Your Nightstand?

Rules, rules, rules: post what you’ve got on the table (chair, nightstand, whatever) beside your bed. Leave nothing out. Nothing. Link back to the kind person who tagged you and then tag 3 other folks. Really tag them – none of this “whoever hasn’t done this meme yet” tagging.

I would have to say the more interesting items are within the nightstand, but here goes:

  • A sound spa/clock/radio (J and I need our white noise to sleep well)
  • A homemade orange, obelisk-shaped candle scented with orange and clove oil
  • A small white stone box with shell inlays forming art deco flowery sorts of designs. The box contains small earrings.
  • A single pair of silver hoop earrings
  • A silver chain
  • A large silver and moonstone pendant shaped like a teardrop
  • A half glass of water with a couple of cat hairs floating in it
  • My watch
  • The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy for Lesbians (Rachel Pepper)
  • The New Essential Guide to Lesbian Conception, Pregnancy, and Birth (Stephanie Brill)
  • Guns, Germs, and Steel (Jared Diamond)
  • The Wild Trees (Richard Preston)
  • A framed poem that J wrote for me ten years ago this month when she was courting me

Okay, it seems that most people have done this already, but I’m taking my chances by tagging the following lovely ladies:

Hmm…one has to wonder what such items reveal about a person.

I’m It!

Oh my word–I’ve actually been tagged! Me! I was tagged by the lovely Chronicles of Conception. I’ll do my best to warrant such an honor. 🙂

 Here we go:

The Rules:

1) Link to the person that tagged you.
2) Post the rules on your blog.
3) Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
4) Tag at least three people at the end of your post and link to their blogs.
5) Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
6) Let the fun begin!

 1. I am terrible at coming up with things off the top of my head. I absolutely freeze. When put on the spot to come up with a topic, a memory, a story, an example–anything–I freeze. This is especially bothersome when I am in front of a classroom and need to come up with a good example of a thesis statement or a run-on sentence. My students always laught at me. It’s a good thing I laugh at myself as well.

2. When I was between the ages of ten and thirteen, I wanted to be an astronaut more than anything in the world. This was after the space shuttle Challenger exploded and after watching the movie Space Camp. I dressed like one of the characters from the movie for quite some time. I was obsessed with this stuff. I would go to the library any chance I got and check out every book I could on space travel, astronomy, and my favorite astronauts. I went so far as wanting to become a fighter pilot in the Air Force. That never happened. I have a really great essay that I wrote about this time in my life, and it always makes J cry. It was a special time, and I love thinking back on it.

 3. I often change my clothes three or four times before I leave the house. I am fairly picky about what I’m wearing, and this can be maddening. There has been many a morning when I’ve put myself in a bad mood because I couldn’t find just the right thing. This goes all the way back to my childhood when apparently I would get very upset if I didn’t have the perfect “round and round” dress (something that twirled just right when I spun in circles) for kindergarten.

4. I used to be able to shoot a pistol with great precision. My dad was a cop, and he started taking me target shooting when I was about nine. My favorite gun was his .357 magnum. I haven’t been shooting in years, but I rather enjoy it. In recent years, he has begged me to let him give me a gun, but I refuse to have one in my home. Secretly, though, I love shooting pistols.

5. I love brewer’s yeast on my popcorn. J just reminded me of this. She thinks it’s the most disgusting thing in the world. I love it.

6. I speak German, but only with J and to my cats. I accidentally ended up with a second bachelor’s degree in German when I was in college. I had originally intended to go for a minor, and I ended up with so many units that I qualified for a second BA. Many of my classes were in German film. I have never been to a German-speaking country.

There we have it! It was easier than I thought it would be–and I only had to get J to help me with one. Okay, now for the tagging:

Question Meme

I realized today that I’ve never done any sort of meme over here, and this month is about doing things I haven’t done before, so I stole this from Jude.

Because we never really know each other as well as we think, in response to this post I’d like you to ask a question. Anything about which you are curious, anything you feel you ought to know about me. Silly, serious, personal, fannish. Ask away. Then copy this to your own journal, and see what people don’t know about you.

And because I also missed delurking day, this is the chance for any lurkers out there to show their faces. I promise to be nice. Really.
