slow down; you move too fast

It’s amazing how quickly time flies with a newborn in the house. Baby Genius is already three weeks old. Three weeks! It doesn’t seem possible, and yet he fits just right into our lives. We’re enjoying him so very much, and we think he’s beginning to enjoy life as a little human boy as well. He’s growing so quickly and developing more of a personality every day. Below are a few of Baby Genius’ likes and dislikes that we have discovered thus far.

  • Light streaming through our umbrella tree
  • Window blinds
  • Nursing
  • Falling asleep on Mommy’s (T’s) breast
  • The half-inch band of stripes located on the bottom left-hand side of the mobile over his bouncy seat (there are stripes spaced intermittently all over the mobile, but these stripes are the only ones he likes.)
  • The sound of the lawnmower
  • Sleeping on his mommies
  • The fan in the guest bathroom
  • Simon and Garfunkel’s “59th Street Bridge Song” (Feelin’ Groovy) as sung by his moms
  • Any song that Mama (J) sings to him
  • Kisses
  • Baths in the kitchen sink
  • Lifting his head to stare at faces when placed on someone’s chest

  • The curtains in our bedroom after a few minutes of staring–he gets a very suspicious look on his face and then he cries
  • Swaddles (Baby Genius will not be confined, and he manages to free at least a hand within moments of being placed in a confining swaddle. In the middle of the night, when swaddled, we will often hear a series of grunts indicating Baby Genius is escaping his swaddle. A wail indicates a complete swaddle break-out.)
  • Being cold after his bath
  • Sitting in a messy diaper
  • Frequent or unnecessary clothing changes
  • Slow diaper changes
  • Flash photography
  • The stupid hiccups
