California Supreme Court Overturns Gay Marriage Ban

Oh my god. J just walked out of our office all tears and smiles to tell me that our Supreme Court in California has overturned the ban on gay marriage. We’ve had great domestic partnership rights here, but this is monumental. I can’t believe this!

The AP article is here.

I can’t wait to see what comes of this. It looks like we may still have a fight ahead of us next November, but for now, wow. Just wow.

I am hoping my state stays with civil union and makes that the standard for GLBTI and straight people (dream on), but I am so glad that California has made a great decision for equality! I like being in a civil union and it makes me feel much more secure than just partnership rights, which we had for a while for state employees. I certainly wish you the best personally–it’s time to end discrimination and I am so happy California did the right thing.
